The newly formed relationship with Towada City, (2001) has taken off like a rocket ship! The newly formed relationship with Towada City , Japan (2001) took off like a rocket ship! A number of delegations have visited both ways! The relations have blossomed over the years. Changes have been regular, some changes were exciting and positive while others were not. The passing of Mr. Inamoto the President of the Towada City Association for International Relations (T-AIR) was difficult for both the members of the Lethbridge Twinning Society (LTS) and the members of T-AIR. Dr. Teichi Kawamura is not the President of T-AIR.

Along with student delegations coming from Towada City , Japan to participate at Wilson Middle School in Lethbridge , a number of adult delegations have visited both ways. Most importantly the support and participation of our respective Mayors as they have both made exchange visits.

The LTS has had a number of projects and events centered around the Japanese culture. One major project was to introduce Japanese Taiko to the Lethbridge Community. This effort began in 2004 with the LTS purchasing a number of Japanese Taiko and members of the LTS forming a Taiko group later named, “Kaxe No Rhythm” This project ended when the purpose of introducing Taiko had been fulfilled, there are now three active Taiko groups in Lethbridge. The LTS divested of their
Taiko assets by donating them to the Lethbridge Community Taiko Association, the University of Lethbridge, Fine Arts Department of Music and the Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden Society. Another project was in 2005 when a stone monument was constructed on the Lethbridge City Hall grounds. The monument was in celebration of the 2005 Alberta Centennial. The monument is built with stones from each of the LTS twin cities, Culver City , California , USA , Timashevsk , Russia and Towada City , Japan .
This project was followed by a “Sign Post” dedication in 2007 when a sign was erected in down town Lethbridge . The sign is a directional, “street sign” and points to each of the LTS twin cities and shows the mileage to each city as well.

The members of the LTS have a tremendous amount of fun with our twin city projects and in 2007 the LTS were very proud to host the Alberta/Japan Twinned Municipalities Association conference.

This year the LTS is hosting Makoto Sakurada, a musician and singer from Towada City , Japan . We have invited him to come and to conduct various engagements and performances that will assist in extending Japanese culture within our community.
